Lawn Scarifier
A lawn scarifier is a useful garden tool designed to rid your lawn of any moss and thatch that may have built up. The tool works by scratching through, in between the grass, with special prongs that remove the unwanted parts of the lawn leaving the grass in tact. Scarifier tools come in a variety of different styles, they range from small devices that are simply rolled through the grass to large petrol powered models that do all the hard work for you.
Budget and Garden Size
Your initial budget and the size of your lawn will determine the scarifier that will be best suited to your needs. Homeowners with small gardens are likely to only need a small simple lawn scarifier that is powered by simply pushing it along. These type are okay but for slightly more serious gardeners it may be advisable to spend a little more and perhaps try an electric one. These slightly higher specification models will provide better removal of the unwanted moss from your lawn and will also keep the extracted material in a tidy bag which can be emptied once full.
Big Gardens and Large Lawn Areas
Those of you that have a much larger area of lawn to cover, it may be advisable for you to look in to a petrol lawn scarifier. They are often a more expensive option but will prove to be a much more effective tool at keeping a large garden in check. Not only do the petrol alternatives work better at extracting the weeds from the lawn but are also more practical as they eliminate the need for trailing leads and power outlets to be close by.
As with all garden tools and power tools I would always advise spending a little extra than you had originally budgeted for. Cheap tools are cheap for a reason and they are not built to last, if you buy cheap you will end up buying twice. Well made garden tools may cost slightly more but they will last a lot longer and should anything go wrong you will have a much easier time getting it sorted.
